Minecraft Standard Unit System

The Minecraft Standard Unit System (MSUS) is the standard unit system officially defined by the MSUS Association. This page serves to document every official unit used in the system.

Distance

Pixel (px)

Defined as $\frac{\mathrm{𝟏}}{\mathrm{𝟏𝟔}}$ of a block.

Block (b)

Defined as a single Minecraft block.

Chunk (ch)

Defined as 16 blocks.

Area

Pixel (px²)

Defined as an area with a length and width of $\frac{\mathrm{𝟏}}{\mathrm{𝟏𝟔}}$ of a block.

Block² (b²)

Defined as an area with a length and width of 1 block.

Chunk² (ch²)

Defined as an area with a length and width of 1 chunk (16 blocks).

Volume

Pixel (px³)

Defined as a space with a length, width, and height of $\frac{\mathrm{𝟏}}{\mathrm{𝟏𝟔}}$ of a block.

Block³ (b³)

Defined as a space with a length, width, and height of 1 block.

Chunk³ (ch³)

Defined as a space with a length, width, and height of 1 chunk (16 blocks). This different from the in-game chunk used internally.

Vertical Chunk (vch)

Defined as a space with a length and width of 1 chunk, and 24 chunks / 384 blocks vertically. This is the internal chunk used for generation. For more information, see chunk on the Minecraft Wiki.

Time

Tick (t)

The smallest unit of time that everything runs on.

IRL Conversion: 1/20th of a second. Does not account for server lag.

Redstone Tick (rt)

The unit redstone runs on. This is equal to two ticks.

IRL Conversion: 1/10th of a second. Does not account for server lag.

Hour (h)

One hour is equal to 1,000 ticks.

IRL Conversion: 50 seconds.

Day (d)

One day is equal to 24 hours, or 24,000 ticks.

IRL Conversion: 20 minutes. 10 if night is skipped.

Month (m)

One month is equal to the lunar cycle of 8 days.

IRL Conversion: 2 hours and 40 minutes. 1 hour and 20 minutes if night is skipped everyday.
